APMT appoints new Chief Operating Officer

APM Terminals (APMT) has announced Olaf Gelhausen as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Gelhausen will start his position from 15 November 2023. He will be in charge of all COO duties, including Global Operations, Asset Management, Automation, Project Execution, Asset Design and Engineering, LEAN, Decarbonisation, and Procurement.

Gelhousen comes to APMT from Brose, where he was a member of the Executive Board and was in charge of the company’s transformation, encompassing Organisational Development and Project Management, HR, LEAN, and Business Service Centres.

With his experience from both industrial and technology industries, he is the perfect fit to take APM Terminals to the next step in our goal to be the world’s best terminal company.”

Olaf Gelhausen was previously the COO at Thyssenkrupp Bilstein, where he was in charge of Manufacturing Plants, Product and Process Development, Supply Chain and Quality Management, Operations, IT, and HSSE.

A new digitalisation and automation strategy was adopted under his supervision, including machine learning technologies, collaborative robotics, big data analysis, and additive manufacturing.

Olaf Gelhausen also served as Hella’s General Manager in China and has extensive expertise in Operations, Procurement, and Supply Chain leadership roles with Infineon Technologies, having worked in the US, Singapore, and Germany.

In September, APMT Mumbai signed an agreement with O2 Power to setup a captive solar power plant in an attempt to reduce its carbon footprint.

One month later, APMT and DP World announced an initiative to accelerate decarbonisation of the world’s terminals through the widespread electrification of container handling equipment (CHE).
