CMA CGM reshuffles services from Asia with West & South Africa

CMA CGM has announced the revamping of its Asia West Africa & South Africa Services effective first week of December.

With an enhanced fleet of 14,000 TEU nominal, CMA CGM’s WAX service will now be dedicated to Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire.

The shipping company’s WAX3 service will keep on serving Togo and Nigeria. Cape Town will also be served by SHAKA service in transhipment via Port Louis.

With these enhancements, CMA CGM report that customers will benefit from three tailored services dedicated to West Africa (WAX, WAX3, ASAF) alongside direct connections from North, Centre & South China to West Africa major markets: Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire & Cameroon.

WAX will be offered in 91 days with 13 vessels of 14,000 TEU nominal. The first ship to voyage across the route will be m/v “MAERSK EDIRNE”.

The port rotation follows as:

Rotation: Xiamen – Qingdao – Gwangyang – Shanghai – Ningbo – Shekou – Nansha – Singapore –Tanjung Pelepas – Tema – Lekki – Abidjan – Pointe Noire – Colombo – Singapore – Xiamen

WAX3 will be offered in 70 days with 10 vessels of 4,500 TEU nominal. The first ship to voyage across the route will be m/v “ALS FIDES”.

The port rotation follows as:

Singapore – Tanjung Pelepas – Lome – Apapa – Onne – Cotonou – Singapore

ASAF will be offered in 84 days with 12 vessels of 8,500 TEU nominal. The first ship to voyage across the route will be m/v “MAERSK AMAZON”.

The port rotation follows as:

Qingdao – Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Tanjung Pelepas – Singapore – Pointe Noire – Kribi – Luanda – Walvis Bay – Singapore- Qingdao

SHAKA will be offered in 63 days with nine vessels of 9,300 TEU nominal.  

The port rotation follows as:

Shanghai – Ningbo – Shekou – Tanjung Pelepas – Port Louis – Durban – Port Louis – Tanjung Pelepas – Shanghai

Customers will reportedly also benefit from “a better frequency and improved transit times to South Range on ASAF service,” as well as a “unique and competitive solution to address South Africa Market via SHAKA.”

Last month, CMA CGM officially renamed the two terminals in New York and New Jersey, which it purchased from Global Container Terminals (GCT) earlier this year.

More recently, CMA CGM released its Q3 financial results which showed its revenue and operating profit drop significantly year on year.
