Container records broken at the Port of Antwerp

The Port of Antwerp has broken its record of most containers handled during a single visit, following the departure of the Manila Maersk from the MSC PSA European Terminal.

The Manila Maersk, from shipping liners A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), departed the terminal on 17 October 2021. Upon its call, the terminal was able to handle 11,988 containers, totalling 19,677 TEU.

In a social media post, the MSC PSA European Terminal stated, “A new record at the Port of Antwerp! On Sunday, the A.P. Moller – Maersk Manila Maersk departed from our MSC PSA European Terminal. This mega vessel broke the call size record of most containers handled during a single visit: a total of 11988 containers (19,677 TEU) were handled. Thanks for the confidence A.P. Moller – Maersk , and thanks to all our colleagues!” 

Previously, the Port of Antwerp announced it was awarded €10.91 million ($12.88 million) from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s funding programme, to increase its container capacity. Announced in July 2021, the port said its Extra Container Capacity Antwerp (ECA) project shows its importance to European trade and its place in the global supply chain.
