COSCO SHIPPING introduces 700 TEU electric containership

COSCO SHIPPING Development’s 700 TEU electric container vessel (N997) has launched at COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry’s No.1 Shipyard in Yangzhou, China.

The container vessel arrived at the Yangzhou Shipyard on 28 July 2023.

According to the shipping company, the event marks a significant advancement in the adoption of fully battery-powered vessels in inland waterways.

This comes five months after COSCO SHIPPING Ports Limited announced that its total throughput for 2022 increased by 0.6 per cent from 2021 to 130.1 TEU.

COSCO SHIPPING Development said it will continue to promote and deploy electric boats in domestic interior and coastal seas, therefore contributing to the development of green, zero-carbon shipping solutions.

In June 2023, COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Technology (Weihai) signed an order for methanol fuel supply system for four 16,000 TEU containerships with COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou).

More recently, COSCO SHIPPING’s 400,000 DWT ore carrier ‘YUAN YI HAI’ completed unloading in the Chinese Port of Qingdao, breaking a world record for iron ore unloading.
