The October Dry Port (ODP) near Cairo has become the first inland dry port in Egypt.
The ODP has decided to opt for the RBS designed TOPS Expert as the central Terminal Operating System (TOS).
The TOPS Expert allows ODP to optimise and monitor all port operations seamlessly and effectively.
The TOPX and TOPO modules, which serve as the foundation for data processing with the TOPS BI module, optimisation, and integrated reporting, are the modules that have been implemented.
To reduce the amount of human data processing, in addition to the data foundation, TOPS is integrated together with gates systems and other entities that utilise internal and standard EDI.
ODP General Manager, Tamer Kosber, said: “At ODP, we have created a very complex environment with high-performance rail handling and many additional services for our customers. RBS EMEA has succeeded in implementing these processes at the TOS.”

For value-added services, the TOS offers the ability to move the containers in a partially automated way. After certain processes, they are then automatically loaded to another location.
In addition to controlling the equipment and administering the loading processes, the TOPS Expert billing module is also used at the ODP.
Billable activities are automatically recorded and automated invoices are generated.
For this purpose, the TOS is connected to the ERP system in order to directly integrate the billing events and amounts.

The ODP looks to become the new central distribution point for freight forwarders, Egyptian importers and exporters, and shipping lines.
The annual throughput is expected to reach up to 450,000 TEU.
The customs bonded area is about 400,000 metres squared.
As a dry port, it also contributes to the sector’s decarbonisation efforts and helps reduce CO2 emissions.
