A brand-new train service has launched between the Austrian town of Enns and the Croatian Port of Rijeka.

On 11 November, the first train for Container Terminal Enns (CTE) left the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT).

The block train is operated by Maersk Line with CD Cargo Adria providing rail services.

AGCT Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Papagiannakis, commented: “For the first time ever, major Austrian shippers can be directly connected by rail to AGCT Rijeka, providing a valuable alternative route with reliable transit times. With the cooperation of all partners including Maersk, CD Cargo and CTE Enns, we believe the product will remain successful and attract more shippers.”

The Austrian connection expands on the regular weekly block trains which already include Serbia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
