Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) Nigerian cargo handling facility, has achieved a safety milestone after clocking in two million man-hours with zero lost time injury (LTI).
OMT attained the milestone two years after it began commercial operations in 2021.
A celebration was arranged to commemorate the achievement, which is more than simply an operational and commercial idea, according to Rebecca Ollornwafor, OMT Head of Safety.
“LTI may sound like a theoretical and abstract concept, but what we are celebrating is the fact that we have all been able to safely go home to our loved ones at the end of every work day,” said Ollornwafor.

Jim Stewart, OMT’s Chief Operating Officer, echoed the sentiment and commended all of the terminal’s workers for their efforts on making the terminal a safe workplace.
Christian R. Gonzalez, Executive Vice President of ICTSI, commended the OMT team on the historic achievement.
“Everywhere we are, safety is our top priority. We are doing our best to provide our employees with a safe work environment and ensure that everyone gets home to their families safe,” stated Gonzalez.
OMT in Nigeria is one of four terminals operated by ICTSI on the African continent.
The global port operator is reportedly still searching for new prospects in West and South Africa, notably in the cargo corridor between Durban and Gauteng.
In May 2023, Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT), ICTSI’s operation at the Port of Umm Qasr in Iraq, handled 4 million TEU.
