An infographic released recently by Dadaviz shows the breadth of ownership within each container line’s fleet in terms of TEU, while stating that around 90% of world trade is transported via sea.
In a previous infographic published by PTI, it was reported that Maersk Line had the biggest fleet as calculated by its Q1, 2015 operating profit, with the giant carrier coming out with in excess US$730 million.
In this infographic, Dadaviz illustrates how large – in percentages – each container line’s TEU fleet has become, with Maersk Line carrying around 15.3% of the world’s container volumes.
In total, the top 10 shipping lines account for more than 60% of global container trade.
This is expected to increase in the next few years as many shipping lines have placed their orders for bigger ships.
Maersk has recently placed an order for eleven 19,000 TEU ships, following a record ship order for around six 21,000 TEU vessels by container line OOCL.
