JAXPORT appoints new Board of Directors member

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan has appointed attorney Tom Slater to the Board of Directors of The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT).

The Jacksonville City Council unanimously approved Slater’s appointment on 28 November.

Slater works for the legal company Pajcic & Pajcic, where he specialises in maritime, transportation, and aviation law. He is a board-certified trial attorney who is admitted to practise in Florida, Georgia, and Virginia.

He currently serves on the board of the PACE Centre for Girls and has previously served as President of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, the Jacksonville Justice Association, the Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Centre, and on numerous Florida Bar committees.

JAXPORT Chair, Daniel Bean, an attorney and partner at ABL Law, P.A., said: “I have known Tom for 25 years. He is a fantastic attorney and an even better person.

“His knowledge and expertise in law makes him a wonderful addition to our Board. We look forward to working with him as we continue to grow JAXPORT and its ability to provide jobs and supply chain security for our region and state.”

According to JAXPORT, Slater joins the following officers and members of the Board: Daniel Bean – Chair, Wendy Hamilton –, Vice Chair J. Palmer Clarkson – Treasurer, Soo Gilvarry – Secretary, and Ed Fleming – Member.

In August, Florida Legislators presented JAXPORT with a $30 million check during the port’s monthly Board of Directors meeting to purchase two new container cranes for the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.

Three months later, JAXPORT announced that a new environmentally-friendly locomotive will shortly operate the Talleyrand Marine Terminal.
