La Spezia Container Terminal opens tender for terminal expansion

La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT), part of the Contship Group, is advancing its expansion with the publication of a tender for the construction of the first phase of the new Ravano terminal.

The construction programme, detailed in the executive project, is divided into two phases. Interested parties have until 3 September to submit their applications, with the winner expected to be announced by the end of December.

The expansion aims to increase LSCT’s handling capacity from 1.4 million TEU to 2 million and enhance rail use, with a goal of reaching 50 per cent of total throughput.

Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of the Contship Italia Group, said: “We are adding an important element into our strategic development plans through which LSCT aims to become a reference point in global trade dynamics by conquering new traffic shares.”

“I would like to thank the Port Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea and the Municipality of La Spezia. Thanks to our close and productive cooperation, we have fulfilled our commitment and met the shared deadlines for publication. Now, we are eagerly awaiting the certificate of explosive ordnance disposal, which is another crucial step toward realising our ambitious project.”

Gasselin noted that in just over a year, the entire Contship team has accomplished numerous significant objectives. These include increases in volume, the internalisation of the carousel service, and the initiation of the tender for constructing the new Ravano terminal.

Earlier in March, COSCO SHIPPING announced that its 20,000 TEU containerships will begin regular calls at the Port of La Spezia.
