Los Angeles Port Police recover $600,000 worth of stolen chassis

The Los Angeles Port Police Criminal Investigation Section and the Los Angeles Police Department Commercial Crimes Unit have detained a suspect in connection with serial thefts of chassis at the Port of Los Angeles.

The suspect was apprehended following an inquiry that led investigators to a facility in Gardena, California, where they also discovered 24 suspected stolen chassis.

The investigation lasted several months, and suspected criminals would infiltrate container terminals and steal chassis reserved for commercial truckers to transport cargo.

According to the Port of Los Angeles, the suspected criminals would then reface, modify, and sell the chassis as new. Criminal organisations are projected to produce millions in revenue.

Los Angeles Port Police Lieutenant, Rosario Ferrara, said: “The Port of Los Angeles the busiest port in the United States so stopping this theft was important for everyone involved. Our investigation into these activities continues to evolve, but we hope this arrest sends a message to other criminals targeting the port complex.”

In January, the Port of Los Angeles announced two significant leadership appointments aimed at strengthening its operations and community connections.
