APM Terminals (APMT) Pipavav, Maersk, and Pipavav Rail Corporation Ltd (PRCL) have collaborated to launch a customised block train service for a single consignee – Tinna Rubber and Infrastructure.
The service will operate via the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).
According to APMT, this marks the first time that the three entities have joined forces to provide such a service, and it will allow for the transport of all types of containers through specialist Spine Cars (BLSS wagons) designed to increase carrying capacity by 7.4 per cent.
APM Terminals Pipavav will provide rail infrastructure and connectivity from the port to Sonepat via the new Western DFC, while Maersk will offer a complete solution from ocean to last-mile delivery, including Custom House Brokerage services.
The DFC is dedicated to transporting freight at higher speed with increased load-carrying capacity, up to 6.2 million TEU in total, reducing operating costs in India for rail freight significantly according to APMT.
APMT Pipavav was the first port in India to connect to the Western DFC.

In February, APMT Pipavav partnered with Contrans Logistic Private to develop a state-of-the-art warehousing facility.
The Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) is expected to offer modern warehousing facilities and customised logistics solutions.
