Grundfos, the largest pump manufacturer in the world, has partnered with A.P. Moller Maersk (Maersk) to accelerate electric truck deployment.
The Danish engineering business, that specialises in pump systems and water technology, will reportedly employ Maersk’s electric truck service, where containers are delivered between their facility and the Port of Aarhus by an electric truck.
The trial shipments have been running since October 2024 and are to be expanded up to roughly 600-800 containers each year in the future.

Since 2020, Grundfos has been one of the first customers to ship their seaborne containers with fuels with lower climate impact with Maersk.
Grundfos uses the ECO Delivery Ocean product for all ocean freight under Maersk’s care. Using alternative marine fuels like waste-based biodiesel and bio-methanol reduces GHG emissions by up to 80 per cent compared to fossil marine bunker oil. Electric road transports eliminate direct tailpipe emissions as the trucks are charged exclusively with electricity.

Birna Odefors, Managing Director of Maersk Area Nordics, which is home to a particularly large number of customers who are among the pioneers of decarbonised logistics, said: “This is a gigantic task, but we must not be intimidated by it.”
Dirk Van Der Heijden, Sr Director, Global Logistics from Grundfos, stated: “After ocean freight port to port reduction, we really wanted to take the next step and also save emissions in pre-carriage of containers as well as the last mile to our plants or warehouse sites.
“The implementation of EV trucks on the roads in Denmark went very well and this is a good case for international expansion of EV trucks. In view of the dire climate consequences that we can see in the news almost every day, we cannot wait and must take action wherever we can. We as producers and exporters want to actively drive the topic of decarbonisation of the supply chain and are pleased to partner with Maersk who is willing to try and implement new ways.”
