Maersk containership inaugurates at Port of Colombo

A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk)’s containership, the MV Ane Maersk, has recently completed its inaugural port call at the Port of Colombo.

This vessel is named after Ane Maersk Mc-Kinney Uggla, Chair of the A.P. Moller Foundation and A.P. Moller Holding.

The Ane Maersk is reportedly the world’s first big methanol-enabled cargo vessel, heralding a new era in environmentally friendly transportation.

As the first of Maersk’s 18 large methanol-enabled vessels, the Ane Maersk aims to set a precedent for sustainable shipping practices worldwide.

In January, Terminal 3 in the Port of Tema, Ghana, became Africa’s first port of call for the new Maersk FEW3 service, which connects all major West African ports to significant Asian ports.

One month later, Maersk opened a new state-of-the-art, integrated cold chain facility at the Ruakura Superhub, New Zealand.
