Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia will start to receive an order of 93 terminal tractors this month (December 2016) from cargo handling specialist Kalmar, part of Cargotec.
The EUR 5 million container handling investment by PTP, Malaysia's largest container terminal, will aid the port’s growth and expand its business in the region after a successful 2015 that saw a total throughput of 9.17 million TEUs or an increase of 7% total growth as compared to 2014.
The Kalmar 4×2 medium terminal tractors are manufactured in Shanghai, China. The PTP units have a gross combination weight of 70 tonnes.
Colin Cen, Sales Support Manager of Kalmar APAC, says: “We are very pleased to cooperate with PTP. Our aim is to help PTP to improve the efficiency of their every move and lower their operating costs with our high quality terminal tractors.
“Our factory in Shanghai is fully committed and working at full speed to deliver the ordered machines on time as promised. This is our largest terminal tractor order to date in Malaysia.”
The order has followed several more investments in Kalmar this month as the container terminal of Saint-Petersburg (CTSP, part of UCL Holding) acquired two DRG Reachstackers and six tractors.
Another order came from the Port of Vienna's WienCont Container Terminal for three new twin lift capability empty container handlers. Delivery and start-up is set for April 2017.
