As we gear up for our first-ever Maritime Safety Series: Ports Edition, we’ve had the privilege of speaking with some of our speakers about the critical importance of safety in maritime operations and why attending this event could be an invaluable step towards steering the industry toward a safer future for all.
In this interview, we’re excited to share insights from Starr Long, Executive Producer at The Acceleration Agency.
Why is safety a critical focus in the maritime industry today?
Safety is critical for the maritime industry given its status as critical infrastructure on a geopolitical and global supply chain scale, but also for port staff safety and resilience to increasingly harsh climate conditions. From a technology perspective, safety is becoming ever-more critical with increasing system complexity onboard vessels and in port operations.
What inspired you to participate in the Maritime Safety Series event?
We have been working on increasing safety at the Port of Corpus Christi with an Active Digital Twin through security incident management and vessel traffic monitoring. Also, we believe PTI is taking a leading position in focusing on maritime safety, reaching a large audience, and sharing best practices with this community.
What key message or insight do you hope to share with attendees?
Safety and security can be improved for ports by using tools like Digital Twins that are built on video game fundamentals: they look like the real world, they streamline interface elements, they run on any device, they have real-time data and they emphasize performance.
