MOL, TLT collaborate for newbuilding LNG carrier

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) has signed a long-term charter contract for a newbuild LNG carrier with Tokyo LNG Tanker Co., Ltd (TLT).

This is the eighth contract, after a time charter agreement for seven LNG carriers inked by TLT.

The vessel will be built by Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd.’s Geoje Shipyard (headquartered in South Korea) and delivered in 2026. It will be administered by MOL and will deliver LNG to TLT.

The new vessel will reportedly feature the MAN Energy Solutions engine (ME-GA), which enhances fuel consumption efficiency and has features that make it more environmentally friendly than traditional LNG carriers.

MOL and Tokyo Gas will collaborate on this long-term charter deal to ensure a consistent supply of LNG.

In February, the Japanese carrier announced that the LNG bunkering vessel Brassavola had completed its maiden bunkering operation for an LNG-fueled bulk carrier in the Port of Singapore.
