The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) has revealed a 19.6 per cent increase in international container traffic in December 2024 compared to the same month the previous year.
Full international import volume grew 34.3 per cent, marking the 12th consecutive month of growth. Total overseas exports declined by 3.3 per cent.
Total container volume (international and domestic) for the month was 304,748 TEUs, up 15.8 per cent from December 2023.

Improved vessel consistency and increasing vessel calls helped to boost container volumes. The number of international container voyages has reached its highest level since 2020, with 41 more voyages than in 2023.
Volumes in 2024 are up 12.3 per cent from the previous year to 3.34 million TEUs, with complete imports up 19.6 per cent and full exports up 8.1 per cent.
Domestic container shipments fell 1 per cent compared to 2023. Alaska volumes up 0.1 per cent, while Hawaii volumes fell 6.2 per cent.
In November 2024, NWSA reported that its overall international container volume had climbed 32.9 per cent over the same month last year.
