The Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia, saw 70 tonnes of fuel spill into its harbour on August 24, 2016, and is still yet to recover, reported Fleetmon.

The oil bunker, Trident Star, was on a cargo operation when the incident took place, and it is reported that it is suspected to be an inside job with the tanker under arrest currently and the crew and terminal operators as suspects.

Container carriers cancelled their calls at the port, avoiding the massive spill; the tanker itself has already been under fire for suspected bunker cheating.

At the end of March, 2016 a containership was torn apart and spilled its cargo of oil off the coast of Taipei, Taiwan.

PTI reported that the Port of Tanjung Pelepas was to undergo a US$2 billion expansion project over the next five to fifteen years.
