The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA S.A.) will add five new ZPMC Electric Stacking Cranes (E-RTG Cranes) to its Pier I terminal.

Announced on 13 April, the E-RTGs are more environmentally friendly than conventional stacking cranes, and will improve the carbon footprint of the Port of Piraeus.

The contract signing is the latest in a swathe of new investments for the port, including one new Super Post-Panamax crane for loading and discharging container operations, capable of handling 20,000 TEU mega-vessels.

The port is also conducting the repair of pavements and rails for RMG cranes, as part of the framework Mandatory Investment 02 which aims to upgrade the Pier I container terminal.

The investments from the port are expected to increase the capacity of Pier I by 30% to 1.3 million TEU per year.
