Port of Antwerp-Bruges enhances rail connectivity

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has announced plans to extend rail connectivity between Antwerp and Zeebrugge.

The port noted that services between Antwerp and Catalonia would also become more regular, and a new train link to Spain (Madrid) would be established.

Hupac plans to expand the frequency of services on the current rail route between Antwerp and Catalonia beginning 16 September 2024.

With Lineas as a traction partner, services will reportedly be available 10 times each week.

The Antwerp Catalonia Line connects Antwerp’s Combinant terminal with Perpignan (Roussillon) and Barcelona (El Morrot).

This service offers transportation options for containers, trailers, and swap bodies.

In July, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges reported that its overall throughput was 143.2 million tonnes in the first six months of this year, up 3 per cent from the same period last year.
