The Port of Melbourne has released its 2024 Sustainability Report detailing progress over the past year.
In FY24, the Port of Melbourne reached several key sustainability milestones, focusing on the themes of People, Planet, Partnerships, and Prosperity.
The port reduced its Scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 43 per cent compared to the previous year, with a target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
It also ranked first in the 2024 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) Infrastructure Asset Assessment, maintaining its top position for the second consecutive year.
The port further secured a 5-star GRESB rating, scoring the maximum 100 points, up from 99 in 2023.

Port of Melbourne CEO, Saul Cannon, commented: “Port of Melbourne has made marked progress on the sustainability front, including sourcing more than 60 per cent of our Scopes 1 and 2 electricity needs from renewable energy, such as Victorian-generated solar and wind.
“We also completed a preliminary climate risk and opportunity assessment encompassing physical climate change and economic transition as we look to the future.

“Despite these achievements, there is still much to do. As demand for trade continues to rise, we are committed to growth that is sustainable and beneficial for Victoria and its people.
Cannon further stressed that the Port of Melbourne remains dedicated to leading the decarbonisation of its supply chain, minimising its impact on land, air, and waters, and building strong stakeholder and community relationships.
Last month, the Port of Melbourne appointed Debbie Goodin as the independent Chair of the Board of Directors.
