A large refurbishment involving several quays is underway at the Port of Rostock to standardise and modernise the current fender systems, ensuring the port meets all safety and quality standards.
ShibataFenderTeam (SFT) was commissioned to undertake the comprehensive task of designing, manufacturing, delivering, and installing 59 sets of Cone Fenders (SPC 800, G3.1), with closed box steel panels (2000×3000 millimetres and UHMW-PE sliding plates, 50 mm thick each.
The steel panels were manufactured for the project at SFT’s own production facility in Rechlin, Germany.

Rostock Port aims to standardise its fender systems across all quays, requiring uniformity. Therefore, SFT’s in-house engineering has developed an individual and customised fender solution for the port.
In addition, SFT’s engineers faced a unique design challenge: birds frequently landed on the fenders, which led to damage to the paint and rubber. To address this issue, SFT designed an angled profile for the steel panels to prevent birds from perching. This specific modification is said to improve the material’s performance, make maintenance easier, and prolong the lifespan of the fenders.
Earlier this year, SFT delivered 11 SPC Cone Fender for the AGEO Terminals expansion in Port of Santos, Brazil.
