Porto Itapoá has achieved its most successful semester and month in its history during the first half of 2024, handling a total of 597,338 TEU.
The figure marks a 12 per cent increase compared to the 533,423 TEU processed in the same period in 2023.
June 2024 saw the highest monthly throughput ever recorded by the terminal, with 109,889 TEU handled, surpassing the previous peak in April of this year when 107,475 TEU were managed.
Felipe Fioravanti Kaufmann, Director of Business Development and Customer Experience at Porto Itapoá, attributed this remarkable performance to the burgeoning Asian market, stating: “The entire port logistics system of the southern cluster showed growth driven primarily by imports from China.”

Another significant contributor to the port’s growth was the increase in animal protein exports, which saw a 43 per cent rise compared to the first half of 2023.
Kaufmann added that “this cargo represents a very important segment for the South and Southeast regions, where the states with the highest production of protein in general are located.”
“We have been offering reliability with high productivity to shipowners, a key factor in directing maritime lines to Porto Itapoá,” he added.
The port also achieved record-breaking import numbers for general cargo, with 40,817 TEU handled in June, with refrigerated cargo imports reaching a new high in June at 1,360 TEU processed, driven by significant movement in food and pharmaceutical products.
June was notable for cross-docking operations, where cargo is directly transferred between trucks and containers. The port handled 1,998 TEU in this manner, the highest in its history.
