Prodevelop, Port of Gijón finalise migration of PCS to the cloud

Software company, Prodevelop, has completed the migration of its Posidonia Port Community System (PCS) to the cloud for the Port Authority of Gijón (PAG) to leverage the benefits of a Software as a Service (SaaS) model.

The change from on-premise to the cloud was carried out swiftly, with the port being able to continue offering its services without any interruptions, Prodevelop reported.

Working in the cloud is expected to allow the Port Authority to have greater control over expenditure, as payment is recurrent and does not require a large initial investment.

PAG will also benefit from any updates to the solution without having to pay.

Additionally, by hosting on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the port will have a service quality guarantee from Amazon and the advantages of Prodevelop through its certifications for ENS medium security level, ISO 20000 and ISO 27001.

“Moreover, it was a change that we had to make sooner rather than later because of the many advantages that this model brings us.”

In December of last year, the Port of Gijón announced that the digitalisation of its rail-port system with a new contract awarded to Prodevelop.

More recently, Prodevelop launched the open call project entitled WATERPORTS which aims to support environmental managers of port authorities in their daily coastal water quality environmental monitoring tasks.
