Samudera Indonesia has appointed Rickmers Shipmanagement, which belongs to the Rickmers Group, as the new technical manager of two supramax bulk carriers including crewing for the vessels.
Samudera Indonesia is one of Indonesia’s largest liner companies with a fleet of container vessels and LPG tankers as well as the two bulk carriers. The Rickmers Group recently also won Westfal-Larsen as a new customer, adding 16 ships to its fleet under management which now numbers 115 vessels.
Rickmers Group’s Maritime Services business segment provides shipmanagement services for its own vessels and those owned by third parties. These services comprise technical and operational management, crewing, newbuild supervision, consultancy and insurance-related services.
It faced problems in September 2016 when Rickmers Maritime had to ask for clemency from its creditors regarding US$179.7 million of debt.
In the Rickmers-Linie business segment the Rickmers Group operates as a shipping line for breakbulk, individual voyages, heavy lift and project cargo.
Dr Ignace Van Meenen, Rickmers Group CEO, said: “Our shipmanagement approach is based on a particularly high level of transparency ensured by extensive technical, financial and operational reporting, and supported by our focus on energy efficiency and performance monitoring.
“This approach provides our customers with immediate benefits and has been independently confirmed by our positive rating by RightShip [a marine risk management provider] of 4.7 out of 5 possible points.”
