Container throughput across Saudi ports has continued its upward year-on-year movement during October 2022.
The ports moved a total of 694,517 TEU in October, boosted by15.33 per cent from last year’s 602,210 TEU.
The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) reported a 17.75 per cent rise in exported boxes at 202,030 TEU in comparison to 171,579 TEU in 2021.
Record growth was also registered during Q3 of this year, as MAWANI handled 1.98 million TEU compared to 1.79 TEU during the same period in 2021.
Imported containers in October were up by 23.02 per cent to 214,174 TEU from 174,090 TEU a year earlier while transshipments gained 8.49 per cent to hit 278,313 TEU against last year’s 256,541 TEU.
Cargo throughput witnessed a 3.34 per cent spike from 25,858,562 tons in October 2021 to 26,722,044 tons this year.
October’s statistics further show around 1,411 vessels docking at Saudi ports, accounting for a 28.04 per cent increase over last year’s 1,102 ships.
The GSCRI aims to make the Kingdom a key location for supply chain investors and attract SAR40 billion ($10.6 billion) in investments in the first two years.
