SSCT growth supported by super-sized crane delivery

The arrival of the vessel Zhenhua 35 in November marked a milestone in the Suez Canal Container Terminal’s (SCCT) expansion project.

According to APM Terminals (APMT), this ship transported the first supply of equipment required for terminal expansion, which included four Super Post-Panamax ZPMC Quay Cranes.

These cranes have a 72-metre boom spread and are designed to accommodate twin 65-tonne containers as well as big loads weighing up to 100 tonnes.

Six electric Rubber-Tyred Gantry (eRTG) cranes with automation and remote control features were also delivered as part of the shipment.

SCCT CEO, Keld Mosgaard Christensen, acknowledged his satisfaction with the delivery, adding that the new ship-to-shore (STS) and eRTG cranes are more than just technological enhancements; they represent a commitment to improving capabilities and fulfilling the expectations of a fast-changing industry.

In March, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) issued new restrictions and charges for mooring vessels, mooring services and lights during vessel passage through the canal.
