Tanger Med sees volume increase in 2022

TANGIER, MOROCCO - 08 24, 2017: Port of Tangier, Africa

The Tanger Med port complex has handled 7,596,845 TEU in 2022, a 6 per cent increase over 2021.

The port’s total throughput amounted to 107.8 million tonnes in 2022, posting a 6 per cent increase from 2021. 

This traffic represents approximately 54 per cent of all port tonnage carried through the Kingdom of Morocco.

During the year 2022, a total of 14,404 ships docked at the Port of Tanger.

This reflected a growth of 32 per cent compared to 2021, including 961 mega-ships (greater than 290 metres).

This growth is largely down to the increased productivity of terminals at containers that receive and manage mega-ships.

The port complex handled 459,091 trucks in 2022, up 13 per cent from 2021.

This good dynamic of national exports has been brought mainly by the industrial and agri-food sectors with growth 22 per cent and 11 per cent respectively.
