Total Terminal International (TTI) Algeciras has recently signed a collaboration agreement with Spanish energy services company ENERTIKA to improve the energy efficiency of its facilities.
The move follows the terminal’s sustainability agenda to reduce electricity consumption and self-generate part of its demand with green energy.
The first phase of the project will consist of replacing more than 3,900 light points corresponding to all the operational lighting of the Container Terminal with the latest generation LED technology supplied by the Andalusian company ANDLED – both in the buildings, the automatic yard and all cranes.

The investment is valued at more than €1 million ($987,750) and is expected to achieve annual savings of around 2,800 Megawatts, approximately 10 per cent of the terminal’s total consumption.
In addition, TTI Algeciras said there will be a significant improvement in the lighting conditions and energy digitalisation of its facilities, allowing a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 1,400 tonnes per year.
Under the agreement, both companies will continue collaborating in the development of new net-zero projects.
