Visayas Container Terminal unveils two new Konecranes cranes

Visayas Container Terminal (VCT), an International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) cargo handling facility in Iloilo, Philippines, has announced the arrival of two new ESP.5 Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes (MHC).

The latest port equipment, which is reportedly the largest and first of its kind on the island of Panay, aims to improve regional port operations.

The cranes, designed to work on standard-class vessels, have a maximum reach of 46 metres and a top lifting capability of 100 tonnes, allowing VCT to manage the growing volume of containerised, bulk, general, and project goods in Panay and Region 6.

The addition of these equipment classes is expected to help streamline the terminal’s operation, resulting in shorter turnaround times for vessels and trucks, as well as improved port efficiency and safety.

Timothee Jeannin, VCT Executive Director, said: “These cranes are game changers for the Visayas market. We are excited to integrate them to our operations after five months since VCT started commercial operations at the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex.”

Gareth Scott, ICTSI Equipment Procurement and Commissioning Director, added: “We monitored the production of these cranes from the first day since we ordered them, ensuring that they are made according to our specification.”

ICTSI noted that the MHCs will take a few weeks to completely commission.

Other ongoing developments at VCT include dredging along the terminal’s berths to increase depth capacity in preparation for the arrival of larger ships, further rehabilitation of the container yard, improvements to engineering facilities, and the greening and development of multipurpose and recreational spaces for employees.

In August, VCT underwent modification in preparation for the arrival of the new cranes.
