Wan Hai names tenth 13,100, TEU vessel

Wan Hai Lines has hosted a ship naming ceremony for the Wan Hai A17 at the Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard.

The event was conducted by Po-Ting Chen, Chairman of Wan Hai Lines, and S.A. Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries.

Wan Hai Lines has signed a total of 13 new 13,100 TEU containerships with Samsung Heavy Industries till 2021.

Wan Hai A17 is the tenth vessel in the 13,100 TEU series of containerships. It is scheduled to arrive in late August and will join Wan Hai Lines’ Asia to East Coast of North America route, “AA7”.

This containership series has a total length of 335 metres, a width of 51 metres, a draft of 16 metres, and a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots.

According to the Taiwanese shipping company, the vessels are outfitted with newly developed engines that incorporate environmentally friendly characteristics to provide energy-saving and fuel-efficient results.

Recently, Wan Hai Lines held ship naming ceremonies for Wan Hai 375 and Wan Hai 377 at Japan Marine United Corporation TSU Shipyard.
