Shipping company ZIM has announced that it will expand its fleet of ZIMonitor refrigerated containers, adding advanced “Star Cool” units manufactured by MCI.
The new containers, according to a statement, feature a refrigeration unit that is integrated directly into the container box, lowering the weight of the unit and increasing its capacity.
Other advantages of this design include reduced heat leakage and improved energy efficiency, both of which result in a much lower carbon footprint.

During 2019, ZIM will receive 3,000 advanced refrigerated containers that are equipped with the ZIMonitor tracking technology, with delivery expected to take place between August and September 2019. Of these new units, 500 are “Star Cool” reefer containers.
Anders Holm, Global Head of Sales and Marketing at MCI, said: “We are extremely pleased to add ZIM to the customer portfolio.
“The Star Cool integrated reefers will take ZIM’s reefer fleet to the next level. Star Cool is supported by a global service network and provides high efficiency and reliability.”
